Merimna’s intervention in flood-affected areas of Thessaly in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF

Following a request from the Ministry of Education and with the support of UNICEF, Merimna undertook the implementation of a project concerning the provision of psychosocial support in schools of Primary and Secondary Education in the prefecture of Trikala and Palamas Karditsa.

A team of  Merimna, with Dina Tselepi, psychologist and Director of Merimna’s Bereavement Counseling Support Center in Thessaloniki, Alexandra Kalaitzaki, psychologist at the Counseling Center, Danae Papadatou, President of  Merimna, and Lena Kaberis, teacher and member of the Board of Directors of Merimna, held a series of meetings in the region from 18-20 December. On 18 and 19/12/2023 they met with Directors of School Units, School Life Counselors and School Counselors of Primary and Secondary Education, and Kindergarten Heads, while there was another meeting with school psychologists and social workers who provide psychological support to these school communities in the prefecture of Trikala. On Wednesday 20/12/2023, Merimna visited the schools of Palamas Karditsa. All meetings were attended by the Directors of Primary and Secondary Education of the region.

Merimna’s team collected data regarding the psychosocial needs of students in the region in order to design a plan of support and empowerment of the school communities which will be implemented by Merimna the next 12 months.
