Merimna’s Pediatric Palliative Care Service at the 49th German-Swiss-Austrian Pediatric Neurology Conference

The work of Merimna’s Pediatric Palliative Homecare Service (PPHC) was presented at the49th German-Swiss-Austrian Pediatric Neurology Congress, 10-12 October 2024, in Stuttgart. Kyriakos Martakis, Associate Professor of Pediatric Neurology/Pediatrics and member of the Palliative Care Committee of the German-Swiss-Austrian Pediatric Neurological Society presented the work of the PPHC to the plenary session of the Committee. He particularly emphasized the model of his close collaboration with the PPHC team, through his active participation in its weekly meetings. It is worth noting that in Germany, despite the existence of organized and institutionalized pediatric palliative care for twenty years, the participation of pediatric neurologists in the multidisciplinary teams is rareto sporadic, even though the majority of children receiving services are patients withneurological conditions or complications. The presentation and the work of Merimna was warmly received by the German-speaking community of pediatric neurologists.
