An endless journey that you don’t know if it will come to fruition…stranded between the threshold of two worlds and no one unlocking the doors to let them in, to find their way out….A dead end like tightrope walkers where the rope burns at one end and the knot loosens at the other….
And the net?
Where did the net go?
Who took the net?
The net…
Let’s all join hands to make a net to beat the void.
A net that saves from falling….
Stavroula Dekoulou, “Refugees – Orphans where Earth is”
20 June 2023: World Refugee Day today and our minds and hearts go out to refugees all over the world and especially to unaccompanied minor refugee children who instead of playing carefree and flourishing as all children deserve, struggle to find a safe place to live, crossing seas, mountains, rivers and even torture camps, such as those described by the survivors of the Pylos shipwreck.
The State must create the necessary infrastructure and the appropriate institutional framework to ensure their protection. The role of society is also crucial for the acceptance, care and eventual integration of unaccompanied minors.
In response to the needs that arose after the large wave of refugees in 2015, Merimna is actively involved in supporting unaccompanied refugee minors who have experienced multiple losses. It has provided training to more than 2,000 workers in accommodation facilities, and clinical supervision to groups of workers, conducted academic research at a national level on this issue and finally provided direct mental health services to vulnerable unaccompanied minors in need.
More information about the services of Merimna can be found here:
