“CONNECTIONS II: Training for School Psychologists & Social Workers in Managing Loss and Serious Illness”
Merimna invites school psychologists and social workers of primary and secondary schools to participate in its free of charge training program in managing grief, loss and life-threatening illness in the school community. The program is implemented with the support of John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation.
The aim of the Program is to empower school psychologists and social workers to understand the needs of children and adolescents and to support them in managing bereavement and life-threatening illness effectively, as well as to support parents and teachers in schools.
School communities have come to direct contact with death and illness with the pandemic, highlighting their need for support in managing loss and illness. The large number of requests for counseling, guidance and training of teachers/school psychologists/school social workers led to the design of the “CONNECTIONS” program.
The need of this program was also confirmed by the recent tragic train accident at TEMPI in February 2023. MERIMNA was called upon to support school communities that had experienced the loss of a member due to the accident, but also to provide counseling to manage the pain, anger and intense frustration that children/teens in the schools were expressing due to the accident.
The first cycle of the training program will take place between 10.05.2024 and 24.05.2024 and will be open to 120 school psychologists and social workers. The training will take place on a first-come, first-served basis.
