Meeting of Merimna and Nosilia with the British Ambassador Matthew Lodge

Yesterday we had the pleasure to meet with the Ambassador of the UK to Greece,
Mr. Matthew Lodge at Merimnas premises. Present in the meeting were Danai
Papadatou, President of Merimna, Eugenia Vathakou, CEO of Merimna, Spyridoula
Tsaroucha, Administrative Director of the Pediatric Palliative Home Care Service of
Merimna, Giannis Konstantinidis, President of Nosilia and Olga Papadoiliopoulou,
CEO of Nosilia.

The UK is a leading country in the field of Palliative Care and Mr. Lodge showed a
strong interest in the efforts undertaken by both organisations, Merimna and Nosilia
to provide palliative care to seriously ill children and adults. Furthermore, the long-
standing cooperation with providers of Pediatric Palliative Care and relevant
networks in the UK was raised in the discussion as precious asset for the
development of Palliative Care in Greece.

Both, Danai Papadatou and Giannis Konstaninidis considered the new law on
palliative care (voted by the Greek Parliament in December 2022) as a positive step
to the right direction which however will be in effect when the necessary Ministerial
Decisions and Presidential Decrees are issued. The meeting concluded with the
agreement of all parties to keep an open line of communication, and further enhance
the links between the two countries with the aim of contributing to the strengthening
of Palliative Care in Greece.
