“The Meaning and Value of Life” – International Symposium by Merimna to mark 30 years of service

An international symposium on “The Meaning and Value of Life” is being organized by Merimna in Athens, marking 30 years of service in supporting children, families, and school communities experiencing loss or life-threatening illness, at the Megaron Concert Hall on Saturday, November 15.

Distinguished Greek and foreign scientists from the fields of palliative care and grief counseling will participate in the symposium.

The talks will focus on the following topics:

  • “Palliative care and grief are everyone’s business,” “Compassionate Communities – because support at the end of life is everyone’s responsibility”
  • “Living with illness and loss: What children can teach us,”
  • “Prolonged Grief Disorder: History and Future Directions of a Novel Concept”
  • “20 years later: The chronicle of the journey through the bereavement of a school community.”

During the Symposium, leading international director Costa Gavras will be honored with the “Humanity and Culture” award, and his film “Last Breath,” which deals with ensuring dignity in life in the context of providing palliative care services.

The Symposium aims to be a forum for dialogue and exchange of experiences on ways in which families and professionals in the field can support and accompany people experiencing critical transitions, while enhancing the value of life!

Participation is free and open to anyone interested.
