From Loss and Adversity to Resilience

Project collaboration of Merimna, EKKA and UNICEF funding

Merimna» in collaboration with ΕΚΚΑ and funding from «UNICEF», implements the project «From Loss and Adversity to Resilience». The aim of the project is to build the capacity of professionals supporting unaccompanied and accompanied minor refugees who have experienced multiple losses and their families in the hosting facilities throughout Greece by providing i) training and ii) supervision. The training pertains to topics related to the operation of the hosting structures, the psychological consequences of refugee status on the unaccompanied refugees as well as basic principles for their psychological or other support. Additionally, “good practices” will be provided for the effective hosting of unaccompanied minor refugees.

The project includes 12 groups of professionals working in Athens, Thessaloniki and Mitilini (total 220 people) involving 4 main components: The first refers to the training and supervision of facilities managers, the second concerns the development of good practices professionals apply during their work in these structures, the third refers to the capacity building of field workers (psychologists, social workers, interpreters) so as to enable them to support unaccompanied refugees; finally, the fourth component addresses the needs of professionals independently of specialization (for example, carers, teachers, cleaners, drivers and guards) who provide services to unaccompanied adolescents and come in direct contact with them for everyday issues related to their maintenance.

The project started in December 2017 and it will end in June 2018.
